Hi,
I have just bought a Kuhn topper from an auction, pics below if link works!!
it was a bit of a gamble as I hadn't seen it running but it wasn't big money so I ended up with it. Have spoke to the farm manager from where it came from and he wasn't aware of any major problems but he hadn't used it and reason they sold it was they were using mowing machine for topping.
Now I have got it home and tried it there is some vibration in it when running. Does anyone know if it should be run in 540 or 1000 pto? If I use it in 540 it works with a little vibration but it doesnt cut that clean but if I try it in 1000pto it sounds like it will rattle itself to bits no time (didn't get past 800rpm).
The flails all appear to be present and in good condition. I have disconnected the drive belts and run it to see if the vibration was coming from the gearbox but that seems fine. My plan is to turn it over and inspect the rotor for damage/bend and if nothing obvious remove the flails and see if it vibrates any less with none on.
Am after any tips or advise in how to locate the problem and if it does appear the rotor is not twisted but needs rebalancing where can do it and approx how much does it cost.
Cheers
Jon
